Former Delhi CP Satish Golchha Posted as DG, Home Guards
Former Delhi CP Satish Golchha, IPS 1992 batch, has been posted as Director General, Home Guards from October 1.
Satish Golchha, an IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre's 1992 batch and former Commissioner of Police, Delhi, has been posted as Director General, Home Guards. Golchha was replaced as Delhi CP by Anurag Kumar.
The Directorate General of Home Guards oversees Delhi's volunteer civil defence force, which supports the regular police in traffic management, disaster response and law-and-order duties during large public events, making it a comparatively lower-profile posting than the Delhi Police commissionership Golchha is departing.
Golchha's tenure as Delhi Police Commissioner places him among a small number of senior AGMUT-cadre officers to have held the capital's top policing post, a position that carries direct responsibility for law and order in the national capital and answers to the Ministry of Home Affairs given Delhi Police's central control.
Until September 30, Golchha will function as Officer on Special Duty in the Directorate of Home Guards, before formally taking over as Director General from October 1, when the incumbent, Virendra Singh, an AGMUT-cadre IPS officer of the 1991 batch, retires.
The transition arrangement, with Golchha serving as OSD before assuming full charge, allows an overlap period with the outgoing Director General, a common practice for AGMUT postings involving retirement-driven vacancies.
Golchha's move from the Delhi CP's post to Home Guards, while formally a lateral posting within the AGMUT cadre, represents a step down in operational profile from the force that handles day-to-day law and order in the capital to one focused on auxiliary and disaster-support functions.
Golchha takes over as Director General, Home Guards from October 1, 2026, following Virendra Singh's retirement.
