Major Assam Police Reshuffle: 40 Senior Officers Transferred

In a significant administrative exercise aimed at streamlining law enforcement and operational efficiency, the Government of Assam has announced a comprehensive reshuffle of its police administration. The order involves the transfer and new posting of one Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and 39 senior Assam Police Service (APS) officers. These changes are expected to strengthen the security apparatus and ensure better administrative oversight across various districts and specialized battalions.

A notable highlight of this reshuffle involves Mahato Amitkumar Sidhiprasad, an IPS officer of the 2021 batch. Formerly serving as DCP (Border) at the Police Commissionerate in Guwahati, he has now been appointed as the Senior Superintendent of Police (Security-I) to the Chief Minister of Assam. Replacing him in his previous capacity is Utpal Bayan, an APS officer (DR-2002), who moves from the Chief Minister’s security team to take charge as DCP (Border) in Guwahati.

The reorganization extends deep into the command structure of the Armed Police Battalions and district units. Nirmal Baishya has been reassigned as the Deputy Director of Fire & Emergency Services in Guwahati, while Ananda Tokbi takes command of the 23rd APBn in Siloni, Karbi Anglong. The movement of personnel also impacts specialized units like the Assam Commando Battalions, with Moidul Islam assuming the role of Commandant of the 6th Assam Commando Battalion in Sadiya, and Deborshi Choudhury taking over as Commandant of the 15th APBn at Eraligool.

Several senior officers have been promoted to higher ranks during this process. Prakash Medhi, Moidul Islam, and Deborshi Choudhury have been allowed to hold the rank of SSP/Commandant/DCP/AIGP, reflecting the government's commitment to rewarding experience and leadership capabilities. These officers have been assigned critical roles ranging from AIGP (Sports) to battalion commands, ensuring that experienced hands are placed in strategic positions.

The district-level administration also sees extensive changes. Officers like Partha Protim Saikia, Manas Saikia, and Dhruba Jyoti Nath have been moved to new districts to bolster crime investigation and administrative operations. In the Police Commissionerate of Guwahati, Iftakhar Ali and Geetanjali Doley have swapped key responsibilities, with Ali moving to Barpeta as SSP (FRRO) and Doley stepping into the role of DCP (Protocol). Similarly, the security wing within the capital complex will see new leadership with Jyoti Prasad Pegu appointed as the Additional DCP.

This mass transfer order serves as a strategic realignment of resources, particularly within the Border, Crime, and Security wings of the Assam Police. By rotating officers across diverse terrains—from the hilly districts of Karbi Anglong to the urban centers of Guwahati and the border regions—the government intends to maintain a proactive stance in addressing law and order challenges. The transition, effective immediately, is part of a broader effort to optimize the performance of the state’s police force and improve public service delivery across all districts of Assam.
