Sanjay Khare Posted as Principal Chief Engineer, Central Railway

Sanjay Khare, an Indian Railway Service of Engineers officer presently serving as Chief Track Engineer of Western Railway, has been transferred to Central Railway and posted as Principal Chief Engineer, according to the order.

The Principal Chief Engineer is the senior-most engineering post within a railway zone, responsible for track infrastructure, bridge works and civil engineering projects across the zone's entire network. Central Railway, headquartered in Mumbai, carries some of the busiest suburban and freight corridors in the country, placing significant maintenance and safety oversight under the post, including responsibility for the track infrastructure supporting one of the world's most heavily used suburban rail systems.

Khare's IRSE background has run through track engineering functions, with his most recent posting as Chief Track Engineer at Western Railway placing him in charge of track maintenance standards across that zone before this elevation to the top engineering post at Central Railway. Chief Track Engineers typically oversee inspection schedules, maintenance contracts and safety compliance for the entire track network within their zone, a role that requires close coordination with both operating and mechanical departments.

At Western Railway, Khare oversaw track engineering functions including maintenance schedules and safety inspections for one of the country's busiest freight and passenger corridors along the western seaboard, a zone that carries substantial container and bulk freight traffic in addition to its suburban and long-distance passenger services.

The move from Chief Track Engineer to Principal Chief Engineer represents a promotion within the same engineering cadre, a progression typical for IRSE officers who move from a functional specialisation such as track engineering to the zone-wide engineering charge as seniority permits. The elevation places Khare in charge not only of track but of the full range of civil engineering functions across the zone, including bridge safety, building works and land management tied to railway property.

As PCE, Khare will oversee infrastructure work across Central Railway at a time when the zone continues major capacity augmentation and safety upgrade projects on its suburban network, placing engineering execution timelines directly under his charge, alongside the zone's ongoing efforts to expand line capacity on some of its most congested suburban corridors.

The posting takes effect with immediate effect, according to the transfer order.
