National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), the Navratna CPSE under Ministry of Mines, Govt of India, joined the nationwide campaign of Swachhata Hi Sewa 2024. As per the guidelines of Ministry of Mines and Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Govt. of India, the Swachhata Hi Seva fortnight was observed from September 17 to October 2, 2024, with the aim to encourage for voluntary ‘Shram Daan’ activities and promote collective responsibility for cleanliness. Led by Shri Sridhar Patra, CMD, NALCO, Swachhata pledge was administered among the employees and contractual workmen, CISF personnel across all the operating units and regional offices of the company. Under this initiative, NALCO organized multi-locational mass cleanliness drives, mass plantation drives, health camps cum hygiene awareness programmes, and undertook distribution of PPE kits, safety kits, hygiene kits etc. Besides, various competitions including quiz, drawing competition, poetry recitation were organized during the fortnight long campaign, wherein employees, students and people from various walks of life participated with great enthusiasm.
During the campaign period NALCO also adopted several Cleanliness Target Units under its operating units at Angul and Damanjodi, that reflected company’s commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement. The campaign apart from instilling the sense of discipline for adapting a clean and eco-friendly lifestyle, also encouraged the participants to devote 100 hours a year towards maintaining cleanliness and also generate awareness among others about hygienic practices. The campaign culminated on the birth anniversary of ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi on 2 nd October, 2024 with felicitation of the ‘Safai Mitras’- the sanitation workers to acknowledge their contribution towards keeping the workstations, offices and residential establishments of the company clean and hygienic.
